The Matsya Festival is held in Alwar, a city that takes its historical identity from the ancient Matsya kingdom mentioned in the Mahabharata. Organised by Rajasthan Tourism, it celebrates the district's culture and natural heritage — Alwar is also a gateway to the Sariska Tiger Reserve.
Festivities include Rajasthani folk music and dance, craft and food stalls, and a range of competitions and sporting events. The two-day programme is designed to introduce visitors to the traditions of the Alwar region.
Blending heritage, sport and celebration, the festival offers a spirited taste of a part of Rajasthan that lies close to Delhi yet remains relatively little visited.
