Kajli Teej

Primary Location Bundi, Rajasthan
Festival Timeline August (Krishna Paksha)

Kajli Teej, also known as Badi Teej, is celebrated with special fervour in the town of Bundi, about a fortnight after the monsoon festival of Hariyali Teej. Dedicated to the goddess Parvati, it is above all a festival of women.

Married women dress in their finest, apply henna and pray for the wellbeing and long life of their husbands. In Bundi the highlight is a colourful procession in which an idol of Teej Mata is carried through the streets accompanied by decorated elephants, camels, folk musicians and dancers, leading into a lively fair.

The celebration transforms the historic town into a swirl of colour, devotion and festivity that lasts well into the evening.
