Dhulandi Festival

Primary Location Across Rajasthan
Festival Timeline March (Holi)

Dhulandi is the main day of Holi — the joyous festival of colours celebrated across Rajasthan and all of India. It follows the previous night's Holika Dahan bonfires, which symbolise the triumph of good over evil.

On Dhulandi, people of all ages take to the streets and courtyards to smear one another with gulal (coloured powder) and drench each other with coloured water. Music, dance, festive sweets such as gujiya, and an all-embracing spirit of togetherness dissolve social barriers for the day.

In Rajasthan the celebration often carries a distinctly royal and folk flavour, with drummers, dancers and traditional festivities lending the day its own regional character.
