The Chandrabhaga Fair is held on the banks of the sacred Chandrabhaga river at Jhalrapatan, near Jhalawar in south-eastern Rajasthan, around the full moon of Kartik (November). Pilgrims gather to take a holy dip in the river and to worship at the town's ancient temples.
Alongside the religious observance runs one of the region's notable cattle fairs, where large numbers of cows, horses, bullocks and camels change hands. Folk performances and a busy bazaar complete the scene.
The blend of devotion, commerce and rural festivity makes the fair a colourful window into the traditions of the Hadoti region.
