The Beneshwar Fair is the largest tribal gathering in Rajasthan, often described as the 'Kumbh Mela of the tribals.' It takes place on a delta formed by the confluence of the Som, Mahi and Jakham rivers in the Dungarpur region, around the Beneshwar Dham temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Over several days around Magh Purnima (January–February), thousands of Bhil tribespeople gather to take a holy dip at the sacred confluence, offer prayers, and pay homage at the shrine of the saint Mavji. Devotion mingles with festivity — folk songs and dances, acrobatic and magic shows, and a bustling bazaar spring up on the sands.
The fair offers a rare and moving window into the living traditions of Rajasthan's tribal communities, far removed from the state's palace-and-fort circuit.
